PRESIDING JUDGE LAURA SCOTT
Presiding Judge Laura Scott was appointed to the Third District Court in 2014. She handles a civil calendar and acts as a water judge. She currently serves on the Utah Supreme Court’s Ethics Advisory Committee and OPC Oversight Committee as well as an Emeritus Member of the Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure. Judge Scott also serves as an ex officio member of the executive committees of the Salt Lake County Bar Association and Women Lawyers of Utah.
Judge Scott is an American Bar Foundation Fellow, a former vice chair of the Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme Court, and a past president of the Salt Lake County Bar Association. She has received the Utah State Bar’s Professionalism Award, the James B. Lee Mentoring Award, and the 2022 Judge of the Year Award.
Judge Scott received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Utah and a Juris Doctor degree from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Prior to joining the bench, she was a shareholder at Parsons Behle & Latimer, where she practiced commercial and real estate litigation. 1/24
