JUDGE CHARLES A. STORMONT
Judge Charles A. Stormont was appointed to the Third District Court in June 2023 by Governor Spencer J. Cox. He serves Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties. Judge Stormont graduated from Davidson College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Honors in Political Science. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2001, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review. Immediately prior to his appointment, Judge Stormont served the State of Utah as the Director of Right of Way and Property Management at the Utah Department of Transportation. During his career Judge Stormont has worked extensively on real estate matters, and as a trial lawyer and civil litigator focused on eminent domain, antitrust, intellectual property, employment, and other business litigation matters. Judge Stormont has been recognized as a national expert in land use and eminent domain matters. He has also been recognized for his work to establish a variety of pro bono programs in the debt collection, landlord-tenant, bankruptcy, and asylum fields, leading him to receive several awards for his service to others. Judge Stormont serves on the Utah State Bar's Access to Justice Commission, the Utah Judicial Council's Standing Committee on Resources for Self-Represented Parties, and on the Boards of several local non-profit organizations. 10/23
