What will Change

You may feel like everything has changed and that can be a normal reaction to your parents’ divorce.  Some of these changes include:

  • Schools
  • Households/Living arrangements
  • Family dynamics
  • Friends
  • Time with your parents
  • Separate holidays and events

There can also be some positive changes such as:

  • Improved well-being of parents
  • Less fighting
  •  A closer relationship with each parent
  • New connections

The many changes that come with divorce are hard to accept all at once, but these changes can get easier over time. You will need time to think about everything and time to adjust to the changes as they come about. It can help to have a friend or trusted adult to talk to throughout this process. You can also talk to your parents about how the changes are affecting you.
