PRESIDING JUDGE BRIAN G. CANNELL

Judge Brian G. Cannell was appointed to the First District Court in August 2013 by Governor Gary R. Herbert. He serves in Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties. Judge Cannell graduated from Utah State University and received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, both with honors. At the time of his appointment to the bench, Judge Cannell was a practicing attorney and managing shareholder with the law firm of Hillyard, Anderson and Olsen, P.C., where his practice focused primarily on civil matters. Judge Cannell is a former adjunct professor at Utah State University where he taught Mass Media Law focusing on first amendment rights. Judge Cannell has been active with the local bar having served as the Northern Utah Representative of the Young Lawyers Division of the Utah Bar Association, president of the Cache County Bar Association, and president of the Estate Planning Council of Northern Utah. Judge Cannell's community involvement in local nonprofit entities includes the Utah Festival Opera Company, the Bridgerland Applied Technology College Foundation, the Sunshine Terrace Foundation, the Willow Park Zoo Foundation, and the Logan Rotary Club. Judge Cannell currently serves on the First District Court pro-bono committee helping provide access to the courts and legal services for the indigent. 9/14
