JUDGE E. BLAINE RAWSON

Judge E. Blaine Rawson was appointed to Utah's Second District Court by Governor Spencer J. Cox in September 2022. He serves Davis, Morgan and Weber counties. Judge Rawson received his Juris Doctor in 1995 from the University of Utah, where he graduated Order of the Coif and served on an editorial board of a law journal.  He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah, graduating with honors after competing as a member of the speech and debate team.  Judge Rawson spent 28 years in private practice at three different law firms: Fabian & Clendenin; Holme Roberts & Owen; and Ray Quinney Nebeker.  His practice involved complex civil litigation with a focused specialty in environmental and natural resources law. Among other experience, Judge Rawson represented energy and natural resource companies in matters related to the federal and state permitting of, and litigation and enforcement actions related to, crude oil and natural gas pipelines, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, natural gas compression and treatment plants, and other energy industries. Judge Rawson was recognized by many publications, such as Chambers, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, etc., for his expertise in environmental law and he often spoke and wrote about various environmental law topics.  During his time in private practice, Judge Rawson was involved in the legal community in various ways, including as Chairperson of the Energy, Natural Resources and Environmental Law section of the Utah State Bar and as President of Aldon J. Anderson Inn of Court.  He also served the community through his service with his local Rotary club, as a legal advisor to a community theatre, coaching youth sports, and assisting with local school community councils and other volunteer civic projects. 11/22
