How Do I Become Involved As a Volunteer?
Click on the county in which you reside to find out about contact information and training opportunities for programs offered in your area. Volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application, consent to a background check, pass the ADR ethics exam, and complete all training requirements. Volunteers will observe and co-mediate cases before being assigned a case to do alone. Volunteers are requested to commit to at least one year of service and to attend in-service training throughout the year.
Volunteer Job Description
Community volunteers across the state are offered training in victim-offender mediation, group conferencing and truancy mediation. In the training for victim-offender mediation and group conferencing, volunteers learn several skills including:
- how to make initial telephone calls to victims of crime, juvenile offenders and their parents;
- what to do in pre-conferencing meetings with victims, offenders, parents, and support people; and
- how to facilitate a victim-offender mediation or group conference with all the parties present.
Classes are offered around the state to meet the needs of each judicial district and are scheduled on an "as needed" basis. Click on the county in which you reside to find out about contact information and training opportunities for programs offered in your area.
