Why Clearance Rate is Important
Clearance rate measures whether the court is keeping up with its incoming caseload. Clearance rate is the number of outgoing cases as a percentage of the number of incoming court cases during a given time period. A clearance rate of 100% means the court is disposing of as many cases as are being filed. A clearance rate under 100% means the court is disposing of fewer cases than are being filed. Over time, clearance rates under 100% indicate a growing backlog of cases awaiting disposition.
